House Goes to the Dogs
Gardner Selby writes on Postcards today about how the House went to the dogs last night.
To hollered yips, howls and doggy puns, House members Thursday night tentatively approved a proposal enabling Travis County and counties of greater population to prosecute barking dogs as a public nuisance.
I’m not certain how you “prosecute barking dogs” — is there a doggy court? Doggy Court of Appeals? Doggy Supreme Court? Is the Lady Justice Statue a Poodle Justice Statue? And what justifies a jury of your peers? The same breed? Any dog (except mixed breeds — they’re still only considered 1/3 doggy)?
But, seriously, you should have heard it. Late last night, between 10 and 11 PM, the House erupted in barking and howling from the members as Rep. Eissler laid out his bill for 2nd Reading.
It really makes you wonder whether Texas legislators consider themselves duly elected public officials “serving” the interest of Texas on the House floor or just at a football game. ‘Course, so many officials seem to have a history of cheerleading — maybe that’s the problem.
