Troop Interviews Display COIN Successes
Here are a couple of interesting video interviews of troops on the ground in Iraq taking part in current operations southwest of Baghdad.
Note how young the captain appears.
Soldiers talk to a military reporter about securing a main supply route for coalition forces and Iraqi nationals, Operation Crazyhorse Thunder, and working with Iraqi local nationals.
- SSG Todd Phipps, the Fire Support NCO, from Troop C, 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, 2BCT, 10th Mtn. Div.
- Capt. Adam Sawyer, the Troop C commander, 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, 2BCT, 10th Mtn. Div.
The videos are especially interesting as a view into the fruits of the new COIN strategy implemented in Iraq — the Iraqi people (”local nationals”) ratting out insurgents and the requirement that soldiers be more than just warriors in COIN operations.
