Cornyn’s Comm. Dir. Should Learn to Spell

Just got this great e-mail from John Cornyn’s campaign pimping their last anti-Noriega fundraising e-mail:
Team:
See note below from our communications director, thanks for what you have done in last 24 hours, let’s keep it going.

Quick Notes

I’ve realized it’s not a good idea to promise myself (and definitely not any readers my delusional mind thinks are out there) that I will post once a day. It just ain’t gonna happen. I’ll keep that defaulted promise in the back of my mind — so maybe it will urge me to write more […]

To Caucus or Not to Caucus

Austin is rife with Democrats today — as if it isn’t always, but even more so today, tomorrow and Saturday — here for the Texas Democratic Convention.
There’s been a lot of, frankly, ridiculous prophesying that Obama or Clinton will show up, but that has finally been put to rest by Obama tapping Virginia Gov. Tim […]

Coffee with a Happy Ending

Speaking of coffee, Sunday while surfing through job ads on Craigslist (possibly the worst place to look for a job ever), I ran across an ad for staff for a new coffeeshop, Latte Dolls. I’ve never visited the existing shop on North Lamar, but just judging from its site it’s obviously a PG-13 strip-club-cum-coffeeshop.
They have […]

My Laptop is Immigrating to Japan

You can also search for your zip code’s average connection speed with a […]

Linkies!

Badgers Forward says we need to vet and then accept former insurgents into Iraqi Forces. It’s the only way to move forward, he says.
CENTCOM reports that unmanned aerial vehicle teams from 1st Air Cavalry Brigade (ACB) have amassed 20,000 flight hours in the skies over Baghdad.
Last, but certainly not least important, Mary Beth Harrell, the […]

Withholding Judgment

Jordan Smith has a great column in the current issue of The Austin Chronicle regarding the shooting of Kevin Brown by APD Sgt. Michael Olsen after a pursuit by police officers.
The shooting especially concerns me as it happened mere blocks from my house on Austin’s East Side.
As Smith points out, fault lines between minority and […]

Worst Traffic Traps in America

Forbes lists America’s Twelve Worst Traffic Traps, and, surprisingly, Austin isn’t on the list. These are among the worst, read the full article for all of them with pictures.

The Los Angeles US-101 and I-405 Interchange, which results in 27 million plus hours of delay each year;
Houston I-610 and I-10 Interchange, which costs 25 million hours […]

Secularists DO Add to Religious Right’s Ranks

Interesting article in today’s The American Prospect online. A new study says the more secular residents there are in a neighborhood, the more conservative their religious neighbors become.
Let’s say you’re a progressive who isn’t religious, and you aren’t afraid to say so. You’ve long since cast off the beliefs your parents held, and you never […]
