We Salute You, Mr. Calls-Way-Too-Many-Points-of-Order-Representative Guy

Okay, so here’s the second installment of this great little idea. Not as good as the first one, in my opinion.
Today, we salute you, Mr. calls way too many points of order
representative guy…
While other reps aim to insure needy children, protect the border and
solve pressing issues legislatively, you sir maintain the integrity of
the bill analysis, […]

House Goes to the Dogs

Gardner Selby writes on Postcards today about how the House went to the dogs last night.
To hollered yips, howls and doggy puns, House members Thursday night tentatively approved a proposal enabling Travis County and counties of greater population to prosecute barking dogs as a public nuisance.
I’m not certain how you “prosecute barking dogs” — is […]

The Difference

This is one of my favorite excerpts from all the literature that has been released from/about our current wars (I read all that stuff — Michael Herr’s Dispatches got me hooked in high school). This short piece illustrates — to a point — the gulf between the military and civilian worlds. Not just in the […]

We salute you, Mr. Way-Too-Self-Righteous Legislative Aide Guy

I wouldn’t normally post a forward that came through my e-mail, but this one is just too good/appropriate to pass up (unedited — “leader of the leg?” was this written by a lege aide?):
Today, we salute you, Mr. Way to Self-Righteous Legislative Aide Guy…
While other staffers stumble and grumble their way into work every
morning, You […]

Tank vs. Wonkette = Tank Wins

The Tank rightly takes on Wonkette for mocking the gravity of the Fort Dix plotters’ arrests.
(And we wonder why the Democrats are viewed so negatively when it comes to military affairs.)
CJR Daily, however, has a measured look at the the valid reasons we have to take some terror-plot arrests with a grain of salt.

Wimpy Draftees!

LTC Bob Bateman authored a post today at Altercation about the waves of hysteria regarding a draft that regularly wash over the U.S.
Aside from sayin’ a draft ain’t happenin’, he also notes that many people have started . . . how should I say it? . . . softly supporting . . . a draft […]

Federalist Papers, No. 8 (Hamilton)

Safety from external danger is the most powerful director of national conduct. Even the ardent love of liberty will, after a time, give way to its dictates. The violent destruction of life and property incident to war, the continual effort and alarm attendant on a state of continual danger, will compel nations the most attached […]

Bible Bill Passes in Its Better Form

Rep. Chisum didn’t get his awful amendment to his Bible bill, but the bill did pass — with the protections spearheaded by TFN — unanimously.
Surprisingly, the debate took less than forty minutes. Man, it’s like someone is forcing this session to be boring.

Damn House TV

THE BIBLE BILL IS UP AND THERE’S NO SOUND ON THE TV FEED!
ARRRRGH!
UPDATE: Okay. False alarm. It’s just my TV feed — in both rooms of my house with cable hook-ups. Maybe just Grande Communications? You can watch the live feed online (with sound!).
Almost made me miss Chisum immediately laying out the floor substitute as […]
