More on New OPSEC Regs

From The Tank:
From the Captain Jack Holt, the New Media Operations Chief for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, a Fact Sheet has been issued looking to offer clarification on the ongoing and often heated discussions regarding the recent communications regulations pertaining to MilBloggers.
Some key pieces of the fact sheet:

America’s Army respects every Soldier’s […]

No Sat. Sessions Rumor Confirmed

My April 26 post regarding the rumor that there won’t be any House sessions held on Saturdays until the last Saturday in May has been confirmed in a report today by Postcards from the Lege:
A bigger issue may be why the House has chosen, so far, not to work weekends until the final weekend in […]

Just Another Outside the Wall

I’ve heard a rumor — or maybe just a joke — that if the Texas-Mexico border wall is completed (using inmate labor, of course), Rep. Guillen’s district office will be on the “Mexican side.” Something about that being the only way they can get around landforms or infrastructure or his reelection.

OPSEC Gone Wild!

Times are not good for milbloggers.
The U.S. Army has issued new Operations Security (OPSEC) regulations restricting (and possibly killing) soldiers’ blogs — taking away a valuable source of frontline information from American citizens.

Goodbye to Bush from Welcome to Texas Signs

One bill I don’t mind seeing on Local & Consent.
–A friend

HB 693 by Paxton — Removing the phrase “Home of George W Bush” from signs that say “Welcome to Texas” on highways as you enter the state.

The bill would require that Bush’s name be taken off the signs at the end of […]

Craddick being a dick?

Postcards has a great memo blasting Texas Republican House Speaker Tom Craddick’s blatantly partisan leadership of the House — through his control of which bills get to the floor. Authored by House Democratic Leader Jim Dunnam, the memo includes charts showing that 84 percent of Republicans have had two or more of their bills placed […]

Building a Combat Outpost

Michael Yon has a great two-parter on the building of a new Combat Outpost (aka Joint Security Station aka Combat Observation Post) in Baghdad as part of Gen. Petraeus’ counterinsurgency strategy. The posts are staffed (and resided in) by American and Iraqi soldiers and police within Baghdad neighborhoods.
He has some great photos as well.
Some people […]

I’m Not in TDEx! Yet.

A week or so ago I requested any records about me that are currently in the governor’s homeland security database.
Apparently, my parking tickets haven’t landed me on any no-flight lists — or escape-to-Ardmore hazards.
Of course, by requesting the information, I’ve probably automatically created a file for myself.
The text of the response to my request:

We received […]
